Oasis formed in Manchester in 1991. Led by lead guitarist and principal songwriter Noel Gallagher and his younger brother, vocalist and songwriter Liam Gallagher, they are one of the most successful and prominent English music bands to emerge during the 1990s Britpop movement with over 50 million in album sales worldwide and 8 UK number-one singles.

Oasis evolved from an earlier band called The Rain, who took their name from the B-side of the 1966 Beatles hit Paperback Writer.

They comprised of Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan on bass guitar, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on guitar, Tony McCarroll on drums and Chris Hutton vocals.

On February 14, 2007, Oasis will receive the Brit Award for outstanding contribution to music.
