Madonna – Born August 16, 1958, Louise Veronica Ciccone the Guinness World Records listed Madonna as the most successful female recording artist of all time, with estimated worldwide sales of 120 million albums. in 2005, her record company credited her as having sold over 200 million albums worldwide. She also has released what is probable one of the largest ranges of picture discs with most of her Lp’s and quite a few of her singles being released on this format, along with some very interesting interviews with her also being released on picture disc, some of them often revealing in more ways than one. For someone who arrived in New York when she was 20 years old of which she said “ It was the first time I'd ever taken a plane, the first time I'd ever gotten a taxi-cab, the first time for everything. And I came here with $35 in my pocket, It was the bravest thing I'd ever done", and then ended up working at Dunkin' Donuts, she certainly has come along way since then. Her debut album, Madonna released on July 27, 1983 produced three successful Hot 100 singles, "Holiday", "Borderline", and "Lucky Star". Her follow up album, Like a Virgin, was an international success, and became her first number one album on the U.S. albums chart. Madonna's 1986 album True Blue presented a more musically and thematically mature album than its predecessors and the following tracks were all released as limited edition picture discs “Papa Don't Preach,” “Open Your Heart,” “True Blue” and “La Isla Bonita.” Other Madonna picture discs include;
